Abstract: Embedded real-time models, sometimes referred to as digital twins, employed for both control and diagnostics will be presented. A method to control and coordinate multiple interconnected power electronic modules based on a distributed predictive control scheme using a low latency network communication architecture has been developed. The coordination occurs through a distributed observer that utilizes a co-simulation method to partition real-time models for prediction. In addition to their use in coordination, real-time models are distributed across subsystem controllers to generally detect abnormalities in the physical subsystems of a power converter. Under this approach, each embedded digital twin is a real-time simulated probabilistic model of a subsystem of the power converter system in context of an assigned control layer.
