Abstract

    Cognitive radio (CR) technology is a promising technique to satisfy the increasing demands for high data rate services. The CR which enables unlicensed (or secondary) users to dynamically sense and locate unused spectrum segments and to communicate via these unused spectrum segments without causing harmful interference on licensed (or primary) users. Different to traditional interference-avoidance CR, the newly proposed interference-mitigation CR (by Jovacic-Viswanath) can allow both the secondary and primary users to transmit simultaneously, and further increasing the rate of CR. The main contribution of this talk is presenting two new interference-mitigation CRs designed for fading channels with practical partial channel state information at the transmitters (CSIT).

 

    First, under Rician fading channels, we propose to use the linear-assignment Gel'fand-Pinsker coding to replace the dirty paper coding used in Jovacic-Viswanath(JV)'s CR. The new CR based on Gel'fand-Pinsker coding can use the partial CSIT more efficiently, and outperforms JV's CR in Rician fading channels. However, in Rayleigh fading channels, we find that the Gel'fand-Pinsker-coding based CR cannot mitigate the interference as in Rician fading channels. Thus, our second main contribution is to propose the usage of clean relaying by the secondary transmitter and/or receiver (i.e., relaying without simultaneous transmission of secondary user's own message) to improve the quality of the relayed signal in the JV's CR. The clean- relaying based CRs are shown to outperform the Gel'fand-Pinsker-coding based and JV's CR in Rayleigh fading channels. The numerical results presented verified our claims.

 

 

Biography

       林士駿博士於2000 年畢業於台灣大學電機系後, 進入台灣大學電子所並取得博士候選人資格. 2004 年進入台灣大學電信所且在2007 年取得博士. 2007 年林博士亦在美國 Ohio State University訪問研究 .2009 四月兵役結束後, 於清華大學通訊所擔任博士後研究員. 2011 年八月起擔任台北科技大學電通所助理教授.

       林博士著有多篇SCI論文 , 其協同指導學生亦曾獲台灣大學最佳碩士論文獎
