內容摘要:

Android smartphones have been a great success in the past decade. As smartphone hardware and software functionalities are reaching a satisfactory level, users become reluctant to replace their phones. Smartphone (mobile) storage is based on flash memory, which endures a limited cycle of program and erase operations. Therefore, how to reliably operate mobile storage throughout the increasingly long smartphone replacement cycle is an imminent challenge. In this talk, I shall introduce two techniques, data compression and data deduplication, to prolong mobile storage lifespan through write stress reduction. We shall first analyze the compressibility and duplication ratio of mobile application data. Based on the analysis results, we shall then inspect the feasibility of firmware implementation of data compression and data deduplication in mobile storage with any hardware acceleration.

 

講員簡歷:
Li-Pin Chang is a Professor with the Department of Computer Science, College of Computer Science, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. He was awarded with Fulbright Scholarship by Department of State, USA, in 2015, and in the same year he was a Visiting Scholar at University of Minnesota, MN, USA. He served on Steering Committees, Program Committees, and as General Chairs and Program Chairs of many conferences of his field, including IEEE RTAS, IEEE ICCD, IEEE RTCSA, ACM SAC, etc. He also served as Guest Editors of many prestigious journals such as ACM TECS, ACM TCPS, and Elsevier JSA. He is currently working on embedded systems, storage systems, nonvolatile memory, and mobile devices.
