The abstract
A game-theoretic approach to find stable partitions in a multi-pair two-way relaying cooperative network is proposed in this work. In the two-way relaying system, since the direct link between two nodes in any pair does not exist, two nodes in a communicating pair need help from other nodes as relays to exchange information. In the considered multi-pair two-way relaying cooperative network, each node has multiple roles, namely a source, a relay node and a destination. Thus, to make these nodes cooperate in such a environment is of interest while taking their self-interests into account. In this work, the coalition formation game is adopted to partition pairs of nodes in a multi-pair two-way relaying cooperative network with the goal to maximize overall sum rate. To form the partitions, a centralized K-mean-embedded merge-and-split algorithm is proposed to find a stable and close-to optimal partition when there exists a central coordinator in the network.
On the other hand, when a central controller is not available, we propose a distributed merge-and-split algorithm that iteratively finds a stable partition and analytically show the convergence of the distributed merge-and-split algorithm. The simulation results show that the performance gaps between the centralized and the distributed approaches are small in terms of the social welfare. Both approaches attain similar social welfare to that of the optimal partition with exhaustive search.
Biography
Min-Kuan Chang received B.S. degree from the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, in 1996, and M.S. and PhD. from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1998 and 2003, respectively, all in Electrical Engineering. From 2000 to 2003, Dr. Chang was a research assistant in the Integrated Media Systems Center at the University of Southern California. In Feb. 2004, he joined the department of Electrical Engineering of National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan, where he is currently an Associate Professor.
His current research interest includes power control in wireless telecommunication systems, cooperative communication systems, distributed signal processing in wireless sensor network and game theory.
