abstract

A wireless endoscopy system uses an image stitching technique from multiple lenses to provide an enlarged and clear panoramic view of the targeted tissue for enhanced convenience and accuracy during Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). In this paper, a low-power voltage-current adjusted Multiple Mode Video Decoder (MMVD) chip and a Voltage-Frequency Adjustor (VFA) chip are proposed that can be applied in this wireless endoscopy system. Dual adjustable voltages are adopted for the design of a low-power MMVD chip. VFA chip is used to supply dual adjustable voltage and currents of low amperage to the MMVD chip. The dual voltage adjustment technique provides voltage differences, and thus avoids the additional silicon cost of voltage converters and level converters (LCs) in the MMVD chip. The voltage differences are applied for low-power consumption while managing power-performance. Power reductions of 40%~68% can be achieved for MMVD chip using this proposed technique. The chip tests validated the MMVD and VFA constructed low-power system successfully for practical use. The video decode system demonstration shows that the animal experimentation video from two lenses with a stitching video was commonly displayed on the same screen. The MMVD and VFA chips’ integrated technique applied to the application on video stitch for a panoramic view, which is innovative.
