abstract: The most time-consuming work for designing new SOC products usually lies on design
verification and debugging. Design for debug has been shown to be an effective way to
improve the efficiency of design verification and debugging. In this talk, the basic
concept of design for debug (DFD) will first be introduced. The various DFD techniques
will then be described. An SOC debug platform that can efficiently implement several
most desired DFD features is then presented. These features include breakpoint setting,
single-stepping, normal operation recovering, software-hardware co-debugging, multi-core
debugging, and multi-clock-domain debugging. Experimental results will also be given and discussed.
