Kuo-Chin Fan was born in Hsinchu, Taiwan on June 21, 1959. He received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan in 1981. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Florida in 1985 and 1989, respectively. In 1983, he joined the Electronic Research and Service Organization (ERSO), Taiwan, as a computer engineer. From 1984 to 1989, he was a Research Assistant with the Center for Information Research, the University of Florida. In 1989, he joined the Institute of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Central University, Chungli, Taiwan, where he became a Professor in 1994. From 1994 to 1997, he was the chairman of the department. He was the director of the Software Research Center from 1998 to 2000, the director of the Computer Center from 1999 to 2003, and the director of the Communication Research Center from 2004 to 2007, National Central University. From 2007 to 2011, he was the vice president of Fo-Guang University. Currently, he is a chair professor at National Central University. Professor Fan was the president of the Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Society-Taiwan from 2002 to 2004 and the governing board of the International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR) starting from 2002. He received three consecutive outstanding researcher awards granted by National Science Council, Taiwan starting from 1998. His current research interests include biometric identification, video surveillance, and intelligent transportation system.
演講大綱
Biometrics verification is admitted as an utmost resort in ensuring the overwhelming security in various applications, especially in multimedia communications. Biometrics capturing devices will become standard equipments in 3D products due to the uniqueness and prevailing characteristics of biometric features for use in personal identification. In this talk, we plan to address the history and evolution of personal identification. Later, we will briefly introduce various the state-of-the-art biometrics verification techniques, such as fingerprint recognition, face recognition, keystroke recognition, hand-based recognition, and gait recognition, etc. Finally, we will conclude the presentation by demonstrating some interesting applications.
