Requirements for First Foreign Language Standards
The rules were first approved in February 23, 1995.

Ph. D. students who choose English as their first foreign language are required to achieve one of the following standards:
I 、Marking higher than 170 in TOEFL CBT.
Marking higher than 80 in TOEFL iBT. Either Test Date Scores or MyBest™ Scores can be accepted.
II、Marking higher than 6.5 in IELTS.
III 、Passing the "medium-high level" of the General English Proficiency Test in Taiwan.
IV 、
1. Taking courses in English writing or English speaking provided by the university. Marking above A-, and ranking the top 25% of the class. (applicable to students entering on or before the 2005 academic year)
2. Taking courses in English writing and English speaking provided by the university. Marking above A-, and ranking the top 25% of the class. (applicable to students entering on or after the 2006 academic year)
V 、Being awarded a Bachelor degree or higher by English-speaking countries.
(Note: Philippine, Australia, and New Zealand are included as English-speaking country, India is not included.) Country List Link
