Requirements for First Foreign Language Standards

 

The rules were first approved in February 23, 1995.
Revised and approved in September 27, 2002.
Revised and approved in October 16, 2002.
Revised and approved in December 15, 2010.

Revised and approved in October 18, 2019.

Revised and approved in November 1, 2022.

 

 

Ph. D. students who choose English as their first foreign language are required to achieve one of the following standards:

 

I Marking higher than 170 in TOEFL CBT.

      Marking higher than 80 in TOEFL iBTEither Test Date Scores or MyBest™ Scores can be accepted.

 

IIMarking higher than 6.5 in IELTS.

 

III Passing the "medium-high level" of the General English Proficiency Test in Taiwan.

 

IV 

1. Taking courses in English writing or English speaking provided by the university. Marking above A-, and ranking the top 25% of the class. (applicable to students entering on or before the 2005 academic year)

2. Taking courses in English writing and English speaking provided by the university. Marking above A-, and ranking the top 25% of the class. (applicable to students entering on or after the 2006 academic year)

 

V Being awarded a Bachelor degree or higher by English-speaking countries.

 

 

(These Regulations are adopted in Chinese, which shall prevail in case of any discrepancy between the English translation and the Chinese original.)
